Pricing

From surprisingly cheap to reassuringly expensive, depending on the value, nature, complexity and urgency of the work, the identity of the client and my current workload.  I can provide hourly or daily rates or fixed/capped fees, depending on the nature of the engagement and the client’s preference.

Instructions

I have Law Society approval to accept direct instructions from clients.  Subject to the worktype falling within the prescribed categories, no instructing solicitor is required. I can arrange for instructing solicitors where required.

Terms of engagement

I will provide an engagement letter when instructed, which sets out scope and pricing and appends my terms of engagement.

Referrals

I will only accept instructions where I have the capacity to do the work within your required timeframes, and where the work falls within my areas of expertise.  Where I cannot accept instructions I have a broad network of practitioners covering the full spectrum of legal practice and can assist in finding you the best person for the job. As a barrister there are certain areas of work that I cannot undertake (i.e., conveyancing) and, where necessary, I can arrange for this through solicitors’ firms.

Anti Money Laundering legislation

Barristers have a class exemption from certain elements of the AML legislation.  However, this exemption is relatively narrow and on some matters I may need to undertake the identity checks and other due diligence required by the AML legislation prior to commencing work.
